The short version. Your family’s plans live on your own devices. If you switch on sync, a copy is kept on our server in London so your devices can share it, and nobody outside your household can see it. We don’t show adverts, we don’t track you around the web, we don’t use analytics, and we never sell or share your data.

Who we are

On the FridgeDoor is a family planner run by Matthew King in the United Kingdom. For anything about your data, email hello@onthefridgedoor.com.

What stays on your device

Everything you put in the app (your family’s names, children’s birth month and year, meal plans, shopping lists, chores, events, tasks, birthdays and gift ideas) is saved in the app on your phone, tablet or computer. Without sync, it never leaves that device.

Some settings always stay on each device and never go to our server: the parent PIN, the colour theme, the kitchen display options and copies of connected calendars.

If you switch on sync

Sync lets a household share one plan across devices. When a parent signs in, we keep:

WhatWhyHow long
The parent’s email addressTo send a one-time sign-in code. There are no passwords.Until the account is deleted
The household’s shared plan: the same things listed aboveSo every device in the household sees the same planUntil the last parent leaves the household or deletes their account
Reminder schedule: the next two weeks of events, tasks, chores and occasions, with names, plus each device’s notification address and reminder settings (whose device it is, reminder times)To send reminders at the right time, even when the app is closedReplaced as the app updates it; removed when reminders are switched off
Nudges (short messages a parent sends to a family member’s device)To deliver them and let the person reply “OK” or “On my way”7 days
A record of which reminders were sentSo nobody gets the same reminder twice3 days
Links to calendars you connect (Google, Outlook or iCloud)So the app can show them. Only the parent who added a link can see itUntil it is removed

Only members of your household can read your household’s data. Children don’t have accounts: parents set up the app and decide which devices it’s on.

Children

We ask for each child’s name and birth month and year only, never the full date, so the app can suggest chores and essentials that suit their age. Children don’t sign in, and we don’t collect anything from them directly. A parent can lock the app on a shared device so children can’t change settings or see gift ideas.

Companies that help run the app

We use a small number of services, and only for what’s described here:

The app doesn’t load fonts, adverts or trackers from anyone else.

Why we can use your data (UK GDPR)

We use your data to provide the service you’ve asked for: our lawful basis is contract for parents who sign in, and legitimate interests for the family details parents choose to add, which are only used to make the app work for that family.

Feedback notes

If you use “Copy feedback note” in Settings, the note contains your device type, app version and which features are on. It never includes names, meals or chores, and it only goes where you paste it.

Changes

If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and say so in the app before it takes effect.
